Oh man....new engine time. Its gonna blow any day.......

Just kidding........that's totally normal to see. Some people see less, some see more. No problem at all. Its normal engine shedding. As long as you don't see solid hard chunks or little tiny hard dots of metal....you're fine. Your oil filter catches all that stuff.

My 436ci stroker saw that at every oil change all the way up to 173,000 miles.

I would do an engine flush at your next oil change.
Before you drain the old oil out, pour a full can of Gunk engine flush into the crankcase. Let it idle for 5 minutes. IDLE ONLY. Drain it. Pour 4 quarts of cheap oil, any brand, any weight. Let it idle for 5 minutes. Drain that out. Change the filter. Then fill with your good oil........DRIVE.....

They're in 'hair' form due to the magnetism. Remove them from the magnet and they become 'powder'. NORMAL.

No one wants to see that, but it is normal wear for every engine.

Shavings like that are not cool. Fresh motor? Maybe. Everyone gets something on a magnetic drain, but that doesn't look too good. Something is shedding material far too fast IMO. After a buck forty you should only be seeing metallic sludge.

As "FirstyrLS1Z" stated in his post....its not really metal shavings....its metal powder.....

Every engine has it......the magnet is making it look bad. Touch it with your finger and it will literally dissolve like liquid on your finger.......its not "pieces" of metal.

Stop worrying......its absolutely normal for all engines to shed like that, in all stages of their life.

I cleaned the oil off . The hair like things stayed attached to the magnet

I have one of those...they are friggin awesome. My first oil change I did with my brand new 390ci at 100 miles was COVERED on the inside of the oil filter with metal shavings.

I unscrewed it, leaving the magnet attached....I also had duct tape holding it on just in case I hit a real sharp pothole or something, didn't want to lose it.......gave it to my friend and he band-sawed it open. Metal shavings covering the entire bottom inside of the oil filter.

Im going to check it again at my next oil change, to see what it catches after 2,500 miles on this engine.....

Yup...those powderized shavings are hard to actually get off the magnet.....

^^^No, he is saying that he has/for you to get a VERY strong neodymium/rare earth magnet called a Filter Mag, which clamps onto (by shear, STRONG magnetic force) the outside can of which ever metal oil filter you choose to use (it is curved like the outside of the can).

I have the 'racing' version on my Amsoil EaO 83 right now, and even though it is ~10 years old it is NOT going anywhere, even over the WORST potholes/bumps/dips or washboard roads (that's how strong the magnetic force is, it must be pryed off of my filters with a small crowbar, or large screwdirver!)!!
