Key gets stuck - won't turn ignition Really cold day up north here..... well I go to put the key in my car to start it, never had any problems at all, and the key feels weird going in, almost like it's bottoming out. I pull it out think it's the key for my other car by mistake and it does come out but kind of awkwardly. It's the correct key. Put it back in, still feels all weird going in and it won't turn. I try wiggling the key and the ignition cylinder around, nothing. Try wiggling the steering wheel while trying to turn the key and the steering wheel locks. Still try turning the key while turning the wheel as much as I can, nothing. Check to make sure the car is all the way in park - it seems to be (I can't even get the key in well enough to get the shifter to move though). I also tried my spare key and it still does not work. |
first thing I try any time I have ignition issues, albeit I don't know how safe this is for an F-body with the resistor in the key, is I spray a little WD-40 in the ignition and slide the key in and out multiple times and I never have any issue with the key again as long as I keep the car (which was several years after doing so). |
The thing with WD40 is it washes the good lubricants away. A dry silicone spray for locks would be kinder to the mechanism if it ends up surviving this episode. |
