Default Steering column - "staked" pivot pins

I'm currently diagnosing my loose steering column. I have fully disassembled and have already tightened the 4 hex bolts that mount the lower assembly. I full reassembled and found my steering wheel still just as loose. My next option is to address the pivot pins. Upon looking at my GM service manual I found the attached picture. The manual states that if the housing and pins have been "staked" 3 times, it must be replaced. I need some clarification on this. What is this "staking" and what is the "it" that must be replaced. (I found some oversized pivot pins online from a machining company so I'm hoping those will take up any slop in the pivot pin location.)

Found it. Staking is taking a punch and punching the lip of the housing so a metal lip forms over the hole that the pin is in, helping prevent the pin from backing out of it's hole.

As you undertake this project, here is some reading for you. Please post to whichever thread best applies to what you end up doing so we can see the results!

This is the best thread I've seen regarding the oversize pin option:

I did not come across that first thread during my research. Thank you for your help!
