Steering column - "staked" pivot pins
I'm currently diagnosing my loose steering column. I have fully disassembled and have already tightened the 4 hex bolts that mount the lower assembly. I full reassembled and found my steering wheel still just as loose. My next option is to address the pivot pins. Upon looking at my GM service manual I found the attached picture. The manual states that if the housing and pins have been "staked" 3 times, it must be replaced. I need some clarification on this. What is this "staking" and what is the "it" that must be replaced. (I found some oversized pivot pins online from a machining company so I'm hoping those will take up any slop in the pivot pin location.)

Found it. Staking is taking a punch and punching the lip of the housing so a metal lip forms over the hole that the pin is in, helping prevent the pin from backing out of it's hole.
