Help me solve another mystery squeal/squeak......
A little background...
99 z28
Replaced all the pulleys....replaced serpentine belt - all within the last 2k miles. Installed a catch can in the last 2k miles. New Water pump installed. New Radiator installed.
This is when the squealing showed up.
I have a constant squeaking noise (think belt issue) that shows up only around 5-10 minutes of driving. It does not happen on start up. It is loudest while at a stop-typically idling...and goes away as I continue to drive. It shows up with the AC off.
It is a daily occurrence. If I had to guess where it is coming from - I would say the passenger side.
It is hard for me to check while running because when I put it in park- it subsides or goes quite again.
Vacuum leak?
Need a new harmonic balancer?

I would set the parking brake, chock the wheels well, put it in drive, and then get out and try to diagnose. Sometime if I suspect a weak tensioner I will try to leverage the tensioner manually with a ratchet or prybar. CAREFUL WHILE DOING THIS... If putting more tension on the belt manually makes the noise subside I'd say the tensioner is bad or incorrect. It also could be a belt length issue.

Any recommendations for a belt tensioner ? Ac delco ?
i had a chance to pull over while it was squealing . I pulled the dipstick out and it changed the frequency of the pitch and I heard a bit of power loss .
Any idea what's going on there ?

I always replace the belt tensioners with the cheapest one because it seems to me you can buy them all around at different prices and still end up with a weak tensioner brand new. As for pulling the dipstick issue, you didnt happen to notice if your a/c compressor clutch kicked on at that time did you? Could be your a/c tensioner.

Regarding tensioner, after replacing it twice due to fatigue I just deleted it.
