My steel drive shaft is wobbling in the front, do I balance it or chuck it? I felt a vibration by the transmission on the highway so I stopped by my mechanic. Rather then taking the car out in rush hour we ran it while on the lift. He showed me the front of the drive shaft is not spinning true. It was replaced a few years ago (4k miles since then) with a used donor because my original was rusted to death. The u joints were changed during the swap. Also, the tranns mount is new. There is a place not far from me that can look at it and balance it or should I chuck it & buy an aluminum on from ebay? |
Before you buy a new one, of course have someone look at that one to see why its vibrating. Maybe you lost a weight that was there before to balance it. Maybe you need a new u-joint. . |
That makes sense, I guess I just needed to hear it from somebody else. Thank you. |
That car should have come with an aluminum driveshaft. |
It is not a WS6. |
Every car that didn't come with a 2.73 rear gear got an aluminum driveshaft. |
That makes sense, my car was it 273 car, I took a dif out of a car with a stick because I hated the 273s. Only standard shift cause came with 342 orders came with 273s or 323s. |
Mine came with 2.73 gears too. I found an aluminum one, put in new u joints and put it in. |
I think I will have my current one checked first. |
Steel driveshafts are vibration prone. You might get yours fixed up, but if I were you, I'd replace it with an aluminum shaft. I've done that to solve the problem on all three of the V8 A4 Formulas I've owned (2 LT1, 1 LS1 2.73). |
