Won't start 99 trans am M6 130k miles. Daily driven About 6 months ago, go to start the car, and would get nothing. Sometimes it would start right up problem, other times, All accessories would come on turning the key forward, but all the way to crank, just nothing. No clicking like dead battery, no slow crank, just silence, nothing. I needed a new battery anyway, so replaced it, hoping that would take care of it. But it didn't, so I took off the starter in the parking lot, took it inside had it tested, it tested good. Put it back on, and car started up and haven't had a problem since, for about 6 months, daily driving, multiple starts a day. Until last night. Went to go take my boys back to their mom, and just nothing. Had to pop the clutch rolling to start it up. Once it starts, it drives fine, everything's normal. Any ideas? Key ignition cylinder, maybe if there's a brake or clutch switch? I checked relays, switching the starter relay with others. Whatever relay id switch it with would stay working, but still wouldn't start, so as far as I know, relay is good. Anything else I could check? |
And, um... Just noticed this is under chassis, suspension, appearance. Guess that's what I get following a Google link, if mod or someone could move to appropriate area, thanks. |
If you take the starter off, put it back on, and everything is fine; then I would think you might just have a sticking starter solenoid. |
Next time the car does not start, you could remove the starter relay and jump power to it (be sure to know where and how to jump it...look for the purple wire coming out of the fuse blocks that goes from the relay to the starter, that's the wire to jump). That should tell you whether the problem is with the starter itself or with the electrical wiring leading to the starter. |
