97 trans am steering wheel loose

Exclamation 97 trans am steering wheel loose

so my steering wheel feels like it’s about to come off.big bolt in the center is tight.also it is not the tilt that is the problem.what do I need to check? thanks

Anyone? The tilt Colum does not move just the shaft the steering wheel sits on.

Don't remember the exact year they stopped using it but it could be a bad rag joint since I think the 97 still had it.

Otherwise I'd take the wheel off and making sure the splines are good.

From there I'd look at the engine compartment end of the shaft to see if u-joint is bad or if the hold down bolt is loose.

It's possible the sheer pin in the shaft is broken and allowing the shaft to slip a bit.

If it's not any of those things you'll have to open up the column to chech for a damaged joint where the upper and lower shafts connect.
