01 TA, engine shut down and won't start again A few days ago, I took my TA out after a few months in storage. The battery was dead but I jump started it and drove 4+ hours without issues. On my way back, while driving on the highway, I noticed that pushing the gas pedal further made the engine stutter. I was able to reach the next rest area keeping a steady 70 mph until I had to brake a little before the exit as there was a truck in front of me, then the engine stopped completely and I ended up free wheeling there. Then the car wouldn't start again. My TA is now in a garage in France. As these cars are not common here, I wonder if anyone has an idea about the issue to point them in the right direction ? I thought about telling them to look into the fuel pump first as the car has 100k miles and I guess it was never replaced |
Fuel pressure is the first thing I would check. Should be 58-60psi at all times (including when you cycle the ignition key to "on/run" or try to start the engine). Pump may be dead or filter may be clogged. Either way, you'll need to start by checking pressure at the rail with a gauge. |
