Default Water pump es no more

My 97 Ws6 only had 44k on it. I noticed a puddle of coolant under the fan area in my garage. My mechanic said it will be 500 dollars to replace. What is up with the water pump only going 44k miles??? Also,is this a fair price? It seems a little steep.

Thanks,

Josh

You never know with any car. Parts can go out on something at anytime. You might be concerned, however about some of that water getting on you Opti. Its not too hard to replace the water pump if you want to do it yourself.

Seems a little steep to me....and as above, do it yourself...it isn't too hard and learning the little things will help you save a lot of $$$ in the long run.

Damn, $500!? I bought a brand new water pump at Advanced Auto, and my mechanic only charged me 120. And the water pump was only 150.

Sounds EXTREMELY steep.
