Oil change - what's wrong? So i did an oil change today, this being my second time. The first time i had my friend to help guide me through. Anywayz i put Mobil 1 0w-40 synthetic in and a Mobil oil filter 1007.Afterwards I drove my car (2001 camaro ss) about 2 miles to publix and it seemed good, i got back in and started it again and some sounds came from the engine bay, sounded like fluids being pushed around. That soon stopped, but my piston slapping sounds louder to me now than usual and stayed that way. So when i got back checked my oil dip stick and it is reading like 1/2 inch or so over the top xxxx part of the dipstick (I put 5.5 quarts in). It may also be because i did'nt put any oil in the oil filter before screwing it in, since i totally forgot about that until i checked the forums (I did put oil around the upper ring though). Also i changed the oil while it was cold i didnt start the car up for 2 days. If any of these are the case could someone plz let me know where i screwed up. Thx for any help. |
mobil 1007 filter ?? I'm not sure if thats the correct filter.I use the mobil M1 206 or M1 207.you may want to check that. |
My handy-dandy pocket reference shows the K&N 1007 (small) or 2006 (large). For Mobil 1 filters it shows M1-107 (small) and M1-206 (large). |
:werd: Just put a K&N 1007 on the T/A. Not filling the oil filter prior to installation won't hurt the engine. That allows oil pressure to come up quicker and circulate faster. |
