Default Didn't put oil in oil filter; is that bad?

When i changed my oil i forgot to put oil in the oil filter and fill it up, but the rest of the oil change was good. Only thing is i seem to hear a knocking coming from inside the engine bay now. I used Mobil 1 0w-40 syn and a Mobil 1 oil filter, I had been using 10w-30 before. Should i start over again and do another change or is it ok?

I have a '95 with 150,000miles and never put oil in the filter when I change the oil. Nothing ever went wrong with mine.... YET! But I always smear oil around the seal to get a good seal when I screw it on. I use Castrol Sythetic blend (cuz I'm cheap) 5W-30. I usually put 4.5 quarts in and run the engine for 5 minutes and then check the oil level. Running the engine should fill the filter with oil. The car seems to be holding up just fine. I'm pretty sure the knocking is unrelated. 87 octane will cause knocking. Just be sure that you put enough oil back in and you should be fine. If the knocking persists or gets worse, I would get it checked out. Luckily I haven't had to dive into mine that far yet.

No big deal, it'll just take the oil pressure a little longer to come up when you start it right after its been changed, and you may hear some noises fill the pressure builds up. I usually fill the filter, but sometimes I forget (getting old is hell)
