Default Swapped Positive Lead, Car Dies When Braking

About three weeks ago after lunch my car would not start, so I checked out the battery. The end of the cable was completely corroded so I cleaned it up real good with corrosion remover and reconnected. It ran fine for about three weeks, then wouldn't start again just recently. I decided to replace the positive terminal lead, and now the car starts up fine. At first, the car starts up, then idle drops to about 500 RPM, then sputters a while, then eventually comes up to about 800 RPM at idle. I took the car out for a drive, and it ran perfectly. However, when I get on the brakes hard and come to a complete stop it kills the car. I have had my catalytic converters gutted for quite some time now, and have been driving with the SES light on. Does anyone know what might be causing my car to do this, or if the missing cats have anything to do with it? Thanks in advance.
