I haven't done too much work as my LS1 is in the open on the ground, but I must say based on that I like the LS1's design better, and now knowing i dont need to pull the manifold to change a cam I am in love with it. My 3rd gen cam swap was a bear, though I didn't have to pull the heads in theory, I did anyways because I lacked the proper tool. Re-usable gasket are also a plus, if you dont mind doing the gasket surfaces then i guess its not so bad, but think about this, re-usable means ya dont have to pay to replace it...ever...unless you screw it up somehow. Now I base my answer off other results and the dabbling I've had with mine...Granted mine will be in a 3rd gen, but I'm lookin at buying a 4th gen LS1 so I am sure I will be working on one in car soon enough.

Hi Folks
I have both a 97 and 02 Camaros - I would rather work on the 02 LS1 than the LT1. The LS1 is hard but the LT1 is one big plain in the butt.
Just my two cents

I've never worked on an LS1 so I wouldn't honestly be able to say if it's any easier, but I will tell you that the LT1 was put in the f-body's engine bay to create a hand shredding, tool swallowing monster.

First time I changed the plugs and wires, it took me a couple of hours. Thicker aftermarket wires can be a bitch to work around the power steering pump, especially with 12 years of caked gunk falling in your eyes and face. The plugs themselves were a cinch, I can pull out the old ones and put in new ones in 15 minutes flat, no problem. Just need to have the right tools handy.

Valve adjustment or anything requiring removal of the valve covers would be a nightmare though. You gotta undo half the stuff in that engine bay just for routine maintenance.

Do a standard tune up on the LT1 and LS1, spark plugs, wires and optispark and let us know in the morning which one brought out the most expletives and blood.

LS1 as far as f-body's go...ive done everything from bolt ons to full engine builds on both many times and any one who voted lt1 hasnt spent much time on both or either in the f-body.
