Question 2k Z28 No Start!

OK, i have a 2000 Z28 6 speed, i went to start my car to drive home and it wouldnt start, no lights or anything would operate, even with the clutch in and the shifter in neautral. except for the oil presure switch. my buddy jumped my car and it started right up. i drove it to my house to take a look, on the way there, the guages and all power was tweaking out/bouncing around and everything, felt as if the car didnt have enough power to run everything. once i got home, i got out of the car and left it running. 2 seconds after getting out it shut off and wont start again. i had both the battery and alternator checked and they all passed. what should i do next? is that enough info?

When did you test the alternator and battery? Sounds like a bad connection at the alternator. Check for corrosion around the terminals.

I tested the battery and alternator about an hour after everything happened. there is no corosion., what could be a legitament problem that would cause this?
one thing i noticed is when i was taking the alternator connections off to take it out... there was only 1 red wire going to/coming from the alternator. the reasion why i ask is that that one small wire was in a 1/2 inch wire loom, but on the connector that goes into the alternator there looks as if 3 or for other wires could fit in there to. should my alternator just be a 1 wire?

I don't have my car with me today but I thought there was a four wire connection (in addition to the two main power connections) to the alternator. I could be wrong, though. If I remember when I get home tonight, I'll check mine... unless somebody else hear knows for sure.

Checked mine this morning. There is a four pin connector that goes to the alternater but only one wire that goes to it. Its probably the sending unit to the gauge on you cluster. So your setup sounds like its right. The only other thing I can think of is to check all connections (especially grounds) for tightness and cleanliness. There is a positive terminal separate from the battery somewhere near the battery. Make sure you don't forget that one. Also check your fuse boxes and relays for tightness.
If all that checks out, maybe your alternater tested good but is starting to go bad and is working intermittantly.

if you can, try gettin a friend to swap battery's with you for a day, even though the battery test's out good, AND the alternator, the battery may be loosing charge over a few hours times, mine did the SAME thing, i got everything checked out, and they all passed. i had a spare battery lying around so i decided to just try taht out, (old battery was a red top optima) swaped in the autozone battery and havnt had any problems since, guess a optima was living on the edge, ready to kill over and leave me stranded on the side of the road!

Have you tried cleaning the chip on the key? May not be the problem but hey, you never know.
