Default P0420-Bad Cat?

Well my car has been throwing the P0420 code for a while. But today I took my meter which has a temp probe on it and checked the Temps going into the CAT and coming out. It should be a lot hotter coming out of the cat RIGHT?. If the cat is working properly?. Well when i checked mine they were probably within 20degrees of eachother. So does this mean i do in fact have a bad cat for sure? I was going to switch the O2 sensors around and see if the DTC changed but after i checked the temps and if infact that is true bout the temp I guess I will take it into the Dealer and fix it under the warranty. Thanx Ben

It is likely your converter that is bad. Both times I had the P0420 codes I did all the O2 sensor changes but it ended up as bad cats. Foturnately, they will replace your cats under warranty if the mileage is at or under 80,000. My first went at 76,540 miles and the other went went at 79,880. The dealer replaced them no charge.

Good luck!

Alright cool. I guess I will take it in and have them put a new cat on it. Thanks
