Default K&N or fram oil filter. or other

I'm doing my first oil change on the TA since i got it 3 months ago.
Is it really worth going with a K&N filter or anyone got any other preferences.
Theres a fram on there now. and the car has been run on mobil 1 since it was orginally bought by the previous owner.

I use a GM filter and Mobil 1

Ive read articles where the OEM filters outperform the name brand filters.

AC Delco (GM) PF-46 or PF-61 (longer). Search around, there is a page which talks about this and shows results from tests for flow and also what gets stopped (in microns).

I've been running the longer K&N for over 5 years. Its part #2006. It filters better at the same time flowing more oil. I'm not sure how the search is working, but there a lot of threads about oil filters. Most use Wix, Napa Gold or the K&N. I believe the Wix and Napa Gold are the same filter, just different names. Alot use the Mobile 1 as well, but it doesnt flow as much oil as the K&N.

A good site is http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ as well. Lots of info about different oils and filters.

FRAM are horrible filters, they have many law suits against them right now. The best filters to go with are AC DELCO, WIX, and K&N.

I always hear fram was a pile of crap from the explorer forums and ramcharger forums I was on nearly 10 years ago. Motorcraft and wix are good.

Whatever brand you decide on, use the long version for added filtering area. Has to result in better flow too. AC - PF-61, Mobil - M1 206, K&N HP 2006. The K&N has a nut that hangs down slightly below the pan, but I've used it with no issues. This time around I bought the M1 just cause it was in stock and the K&N wasn't. I'm going with longer oil change intervals with synth, 7k is no problem with a quality oil. So spending ~ 11 bucks on a top filter is the same as changing 2x at 3k with a cheaper filter.

As far as M1 30 wt oil, the consensus is that it's a bit too thin, closer to a 20 wt. The German Castrol is choice numero uno. I was using M1 T&SUV 5w-40, another good oil for LS1s. M1 40 wt is more like a 30 wt. But that oil has been discontinued/repackaged in a harder to find version. Thankfully, I finally scored some GC!: https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-maintenance-repairs/527949-finally-scored-gc.html

I wouldnt use a FRAM on my lawnmower personally. I use Napa gold which is a wix basically in a napa box. I cut open a ac delco, napa, and fram filter, i'll try and get pics. FRAM is made with cardboard at the ends and the filter is held together with string. Wix and ac delco are identical basically, much better than FRAM.
