Default Trouble shifting out of 1st at WOT...

Lately I have had this problem (but not everytime that i am at WOT) where it travels fine throughout the entire power band in 1st, and when it hits the redline... it sounds like air sucking in only, no valvetrain or exhaust noise and doesnt want to shift until I let off the gas. The tach keeps traveling higher into the redline area but feels like Im not going anywhere. When it does finally shift it shifts very firm and crisp still, no slipping. Also with normal everyday driving, it shifts great! 1-2 is really firm and crisp. I have a trans temp gauge that is reading pretty cool most of the time... around 160-170, unless Im sitting in traffic, and even then it has never gotten higher than ~185.

Sorry it is really hard to explain... hope I did a good job.

What im getting at here is that, could this just be a shift point problem? Or is this the trans telling me it is on its way out? FYI it only has 68k on the motor and trans and shifts great normally.

Have you checked your tranny fluid? If it is full, my guess would be that shift points have been adjusted. Do you have any custom tuning done to the car? I lot of guys adjust their shift points for racing. If you bought it second hand, thats a good possibility.

I have the hot cam and had it tuned by PCMforless afterwards. I was thinking it was the shift points, but since it doesnt ALWAYS do it, now Im not sure.

Ill check the trans fluid, i changed it a couple years ago when I did the shift kit and then a local friend at a dealer did my converter and put some new fluid in to replenish that... but since i dont leak or ever have leaked trans fluid, i think it will be ok.

I had that same problem with mine, just a sucking wind noise and the trans diddnt shift, the problem with mine was a bad EGR valve. take of the EGR valve and see if its all clogged up with crud,

hope that helps

Love to check that out... now where is it? LOL Im sure ive stared right at it a million times... is it near the AIR fitting on the manifolds/headers?

EDIT: nevermind, looked at shoebox's website and found an exploded diagram of where it is located. Next question... how in the hell do you get that off the back of the block? DAMN YOU GM!!!

its actually not too hard I layed down a towel across the engine to lean on to get to the back of the engine, makes it a little more comfortable, if you have a buddy to help you, have him be on the passenger side and using a small mirrior he can reflect the back side of the EGR valve so you can see the bolts. If not just feel back there, make sure to put a new gasket in afterwords.

if you have more questions keep posting

Did you just clean your EGR valve? Or did you get a new one? Where did you get the gasket?
