Default Oil Change Light, for idiots only?

The last time I changed my oil, I reset the idiot light labeled "oil change" and it hasn't come back on since. It has been at least 3000 miles since then and I'm starting to get worried since I didn't make a note of when I changed it. Who knows when these lights come on approximately?

I know it doesn't necessarily have to do with mileage.

Manual says it comes on anywhere from 3-10K depending on how you drive the car - don't pay any attention to it myself.

I was afraid it would be too vague. How many miles on freeway driving w/ occasional "emergency" nitrous usage.

Since you're spraying, I would stick to 3-4k miles for oil changes. buying 5qts. of oil is much cheaper than having to pay for a rebuilt engine.

I think it goes off of RPMs. It counts and sets the light when it gets to a predetermined #. I just reset it whenever it comes on.

The PCM monitors all sorts of things to determine the interval. It looks at how long and at what RPM, it looks at engine load, it looks at vehicle speed, it looks at WOT accelerations, it looks at engine temp, etc.,etc,. It is a very accurate system, of corse you can't change your oil too often right?

Try this..
Turn key to ACC; don't start. Push in and hold trip reset button for 10-12 seconds. Release button.
turn off car, remove key from ignition.
wait 30 seconds, restart car. Change oil indicator should blink three times, then go off.
If this doesn't work, I've got other tricks.

you're not supposed to do it while the car is running. you're supposed to have the key turned til it dings but not actually starts i believe. then you have to hold it for something like 15 seconds. it's supposed to flash or something. if you just hold the button while the car is running it won't do anything. just in case you did something wrong.
