Default Cleaned my engine bay..problem with voltage now

I degreased and watered down my engine bay with low pressure of course and let it dry. took the car for a drive a couple hours later and after about 2-3 min the voltage skyrocketed to the top at 18 and the check gauges light came on along with it. Sounds like somehting got too wet. Maybe the battery is fried? any suggestions on what to do before buying a new battery its nothing special just an everstart max

Also noticed now that the volts randomly drop at idle back to normal 13-14 volts for a 20-30 seconds then go back up the process just keeps repeating

Sounds like the voltage regulator in the alternator. Go get it tested at Autozone, Advanced, etc. It's free.
