Cat bad?
Well, My SES light came back on after a couple of months
I went had a code pulled on it (P0420) they said it was the cat?
The prob is once the SES light comes on, I can unplug the battery for an hour
and it will be gone. So, if the cat is bad wouldnt the code allways show
and if it is bad how bad will it hurt performance?

Unplugging the battery resets the codes, P0420 sets immediately after it starts and fails. You can try swapping the rear 02's from side to side and see if it changes to P0430 - but it's most likely the drivers side cat - they're covered under warranty for 8yrs/80K.

I currently have the same problem. I know I need to replace it but its gonna cost me some dough. I'm at 100K so the fedral emisions thing isnt gonna work with me. Its just gonna keep come'n back on and dude,.....it holds back the cars performance by alot,.I can feel how bad it is especially when I hit the track.

Thanks for all the info, I guess im lucky it only has 53k miles so the warranty will cover it. It feels like it is running really rich and smells like a perm out the exhaust. lol

Same here, I'm just over 90k and the ses light came back on. Cat is bad, but the $$$ is insane. Too bad i live in Cali or I'd just yank them off!! Got the "rich" smell also. When I get my Corsa catback I'll replace both cats....

I had the same code and then noticed the car bucking a bit and the tach would rev up to 4k on the highway in OD, yet I had no power. I ended up cutting it until I can install LT's.
