Default My low oil light came on?? put 3 qts in and its still on??

Well when i went to get in my car last night i noticed my low oil light came on. So when i stopped to get gas i checked the oil and it was actually at the add part on the dip stick. So i go to wal mart and buy 3qts of mobil 5w30 synthetic and put it in. checked the oil level and it was good. The low oil light is still on whats up with it?? . just for the record i didn't want to change the oil yet bc im doing a cam swap next week so ill change it after 20 minutes after the new cam is in.

Seen this before, ran it low on oil and now you have pissed the oil level sensor off. Try apologizing to it, if it's stubborn and holds a grudge, replace it. Ron

No 1st i added 1 then drove then the low oil light was still on so i was like WTF. So i pulled over and got 2 more qts and added them and then actually checked the dip stick bc i was and now its actually too much. Oh well its going to get fresh fluids this week anyways. The car doesn't use oil just that i had just picked the car up from the transmission guy that was building my tranny. He prob made a bunce of very short trips in it from shop to shop maybe thats what caused it.

Acccording to my Helms - after filling to the proper level light should turn itself off after the PCM sees 194 degrees, and the ignition remains off for a minimum of 1 hour, then it rechecks it on the next ignition cycle. Supposed to come on at 2 quarts low. Don't know if it varies from year to year.

Well i hope that there isn't any major problems. I kept a close eye on the oil pressure at 70 mph @ 2100 rpm the oil pressure was @ 60lbs. @ idle lil over 40.

If you need to replace the sensor it it's easy - just screws into the passenger side of the pan. Do it next time you change the oil.
