easiest way to take the belt off This may sound kind of noobish, but I need to replace my alternator, and don't know how to take the belt off.

grab a 15mm wrench and take the thick SERP belt off. There is a tensioner on the passenger side right in above the AC pump. Turn it down (I believe, Tightening)... Then the belt will slip off.
