Default High Beams turn signal stalk assembly help *****LARGE PICS WARNING*****

Here's the deal: Something in the column wasn't actuating the rod for the high beams switch so I thought I would try and solve this issue. I removed the first plastic piece by the stalk but that didn't show my anything so I disconnected the wires going to the cruise control and pried the other plastic piece off. When I did that, this piece came tumbling out:

I tried every which way to mate it up with the 2nd cover that I removed, the signal stalk, and the metal rod you see on the pic after this one.

2nd cover

When looking at these pics, keep in mind I'm looking at the underside of the column.
Does anyone out there have any clue on how this all goes together?

I would do it for you for free if I was anywhere remotely close to you.

You have to hold it in place and put the cover back on at the same time. When I did it the piece didn't seem like it would make contact but it will make contact with the rod when you put it togehter.

don't know if its fixed yet but I assume the bent part of the rod goes into that slot, and the curved bit goes around the non-bent part of the rod. then just reassemble.

who knows
