Low coolant indicator!!
 

Checked the search and it was no help. My low coolant indicator keeps coming on. A friend told me the sensor probably has a little buildup on it and I just need to clean it off. For the record I checked the coolant levels and they were fine...no issue with cooling either...coolant is fresh as of 6 mo. ago with Dexcool. Car operates well within normal temps 180-210 on a 80 degree day in traffic. I need to know where the low coolant sensor is. I know where the temp gauge hooks up to the drivers side of the engine block but where is the low coolant indicator sensor located so I can either clean it off or replace it. Thanks!!!

It's a few inches below the radiator cap - can't miss it. You can try cleaning it, replace it, or just disconnect it and the light will stay off. My car doesn't have one - GM did away with them on our cars in 00.

Figures!!! Another 1998 issue solved in later years!! Too bad they didn't do anything dfor the headlight and window motors!! Thanks...I really appreciate the help!!!

I have the same thing on 98 Z28 with the low level light. I can see the place you are talking about just below the radiator cap. Does this sensor penetrate the radiator? Can cleaning the sensor be done without partial draining of the radiator?

It goes into the radiator.

True enough!! Forgot about your dummy temp gauge in the later years..LOL!! Some of the things GM came up with for these cars...ah screw it still makes me smile when I step on the gas!!!!! Thanks again for the help everyone!!

my sensor was getting gummed up with an oily substance, and giving a false coolant low light. cleaning it fixed the sensor, but the problem returned. Once the problem got bad enough it was easy to trace the problem. The power steering cooler, a pipe in the upper radiator hose, was leaking power steering fluid into the cooling system. I couldn't figure out where my PS fluid was going. Pressure tester on radiator confirmed the problem by showing bubbles in the PS reservoir. Replaced the PS cooler, flushed cooling and PS systems, case closed. no more false low coolant light.

Interesting. I have had the same problem and have been seriously puzzled because my 00 is a racer and I have had radiator, surge tank, water pump, etc out numerous times and never seen anything that resembled a low coolant sensor, BUT my genuine GM 2000 Camaro manual set (yes, three books) says there IS a low coolant sensor and that it's resistance is 50K, but does not say where it is. It never occurred to me that my 99 is different than the 00 or that the factory manual would be wrong :-(
