Just discovered it after changing brake pads and am a little worried. I have no idea how long it's been in there so I could have been driving around with it for a while. I check my tire pressure weekly and it seems to be just fine on all 4 usually. How deep are the sidewalls of tires usually? Am I okay to drive it around a little longer over to Discount Tire to get it replaced? I would just hate for it to blow in traffic!

if it aint leaking then i dont see why you couldnt drive it any. you said you got no idea ow long its been there, so it may have been there for months now and been ok.

You could probably pull it out and be fine. It looks like it got deflected without puncturing anything internal. Unfortunately, if it did puncture the inner tire, they can't fix that. Ask me how I know....twice :bang:

its still has another thick layer to go threw pull it

cookba 05-23-2007 12:23 AM

it looks good. i don't think it'll be a problem.

pHEnomIC 05-23-2007 12:41 AM

id pull it out and take it to a tire place for inspection, it could likely blow out there in the future.

if you didn't cut through any steel, nylon or polyester belts, then there is no way the tire will leak or blow out from that.

I wouldn't take it much over 70mph, but it should be safe to drive for a little while....

Agreed. It's barely in there. As long as it's not touching the threads in the sidewall it should be ok. The only thing I would advice you to do would be to mark that spot and check it every now and then to see if it develops a bubble in the sidewall.

If it was mine, I'd pull the nail and drive it without a worry (to any speed).

If you take it to any tire store, they will advise you to replace it.

If you're concerned at all, just replace it. You'll feel better.

landstuhltaylor 05-27-2007 11:13 PM

at work here they would look at you like you were retarded if you wanted to replace that. keep an eye on it, sure. replace it, hell no.

Yank it out!. I had one in my tire that was like 3x's deeper then that and my brother worked at a tire store he told me it was just a needle in dead skin. Sure enough pulled it out havent had any probs
