I could tell it was coming from down there. I took the belt off and spun them both. Doing that it's pretty easy to tell which one is causing it. That being said, I went ahead and did both. Pretty much any bearing grease should work I'd think. I just used Valvonline multipurpose wheel bearing grease because that's what I had.

yeah this was a big help i spent my whole sunday messing with my belts and trying to make the niose go away, just sucks cause i live in apartments and dont have tools so even something that easy i have to take it in and get charged up the *** for

I am not used to the bitter cold and have always had a garage. This was a first outside in 30 degrees. Cccccooooolllllldddddd.... Coming from CA to PA, I sort of felt like this: lol
Reporting back on the repack - it worked yesterday and this morning; however, the more I drive the more it starts to want to chirp. This evening after work it sounded like a screaming Ogre.
On a side note, since I drive into a Portland Cement facility everyday, I can make an educated guess that this is not helping matters AT ALL. I need a $500 beater car. This whole cold, snow, salt, cement thing is jackin' this TA up real quick.

fastest way is to put a little grease on the ribbed side of the belt. If the noise goes away, its that pulley. If it doesn't, its the other pulley. All alternators make a small squeaking noise. Normal. The chirping noise is either the pulley bearings, or the tensioner spring is not holding tension. The a/c pulley is notorious for that.

I just did this to both of my 4th gens and I am very happy, thanks for this write up, I was just going to replace all of them, who knows how much that would have cost.

I have a horrible squeal on started on cold mornings or wet mornings, it usually last until the car warms up. But it appears to be coming from the powersteering pump pulley. But I am unsure. Anyway to test where exactly the squeal is coming from, its definitely very loud.
well what about the power steering pump? I know what the A/C compressor pulley sounds like when it goes bad. As I just got it replaced as well(clutch was bad).
