Default Low idle rpm

For some reason my firebird is idling a little above 500 rpm when it usually is around 1000. It has died several times and the only thing i have done different recently is filled it with medium grade gas instead of the low grade. Its a 1996 formula ws6 A4 if that helps. Thanks

First of all, what the HELL are you doing running anything but PREMIUM GAS in your car. LT1's especially need it. You might try cleaning the injectors, and changing the fuel filter for starters. Maybe also try a search in the LT1 section.

Oh, and just to reiterate, 91 octane or better from now on!!!

Hmm so i obviously messed up there, but would the gas make such a change as 500 rpm idling?

Over time, you probably had deposits of crap building up in your engine/fuel system from the cheap gas. That can lead to poor performance and other problems as well.

Mine idles around 550 also, no problems. And you don't have to use premium gas in fact you are supposed to use the lowest octane possible without detonation. But obviously performance will be a little better with premium.
