Default Normal temp operating range for ls1 motors.

What is normal factor operating range for the ls1 motors. I have a 160 stat and thought have my fans programmed to come on at near that temp but I am hitting 238 maybe more with air on now that I am watching my scanner. This seems very high. So what is the normal operating range with stock therm and stock fan settings.

stock is anywhere from 190-230 depending on weather conditions. Stock fan settings are way too high.

You would be suprised if you plug in a scan tool to monitor your coolant temperature. I bet it will be 15-20F more than what your analog gauge is showing right now.

On my 98 the dash guage shows 180-185F, the gauge reading off the OBDII port displays 200-205F on a hot day.

yeah, 98 gauges are the most accurate but read about 15-20*low. Stock fans come on at about 215* way too high. This can allow for coolant temps to get up to 220+ on a hot summer day in heavy traffic. Get those fans reprogrammed.

this will probably freak some people out but the stock fan settings for 98-02 LS1 f-bodies are..

Fan 1 on 226/off 219
Fan 2 on 234/off 227

They run a lot hotter than the temp gauges indicate. I used to see 225-230 all the time in my car before I change the fan settings and put a t-stat in it.

I'd verify the fan settings first in the tune first. If you have HPT plug in the laptop and start the scanner and force the fans on to be sure they are operating properly. could be a problem with the fans or possibly the radiator just isn't up to the job cooling the car.
