Since Autozone puts the same SKU number on both the American version and the German version, have you opened up each case to see how many cases actually contain the German version?

Stopped by Autozone last night and found the German Castrol on the shelves, had heard elsewhere that they had it back in stock - was gonna switch over to Pennzoil Platinum but just got the GC since it was cheaper and they only had PP 0-40

Same story here. Just happened to find 12 quarts GC on the shelf as I was scoping out Pennzoil Platinum. Apparently the chick behind the counter was not familiar with the high end oils, as she about crapped when she rang it up. My wife wasn't particularly happy when I told her I just bought $80 worth of motor oil for my toy! lol

Green GC is hard to find now days.

I'm just running the new Gold GC. I love it! The Gold has proven itself to be just as good as the green if not better!

Good luck!

Dude - don't get 'em started.

Just walked into another AZ in town, they had twelve quarts on the shelf, too. Almost bought them all, but I figured I didn't need more than the four year supply I already have.

GC 0W-30 is thicker than Mobil 1 5W-30, which is thicker than Mobil 1 10W-30. GC 0W-30 is almost as thick as a 40 weight. It's a very thick oil, thicker than almost all 30 weights on the market. A 0W oil is ideal for any temperature because it provides maximum startup protection. GC 0W-30 will get to all the small places A LOT faster than your 20W-50. Your 20W-50 is leaving large portions of your motor completely unprotected during startup since it's too thick to flow into all the little crevices that the 0W can.

In short, run GC 0W-30 in all weather conditions all year-round.

I stopped by today at Autozone and sure enough there carrying the german castrol. I didn't get any because I don't need a oil change yet and I'm sure this isn't a partime thing.

It's not "bad" oil, but it is just not nearly as good as GC (and some others out there). Look at the specs and UOAs (used oil analysis') and you will see what everyone is talking about.

Some numbers...The Syntec 5w-30 is too thin (9.7cst@100) and is thinner than M1 5w-30(10.0cst@100). Both of those oils are at the bottom end range for 30w. The range for 30w is 9.3-12.5 cst@100 deg.C.
The German made Syntec 0w-30 is 12.2 cst@100, thus at the top end of 30w range and is why people will say it is "nearly 40w".
