loose wires under hood?
Hey guys... any idea what these wires are for? The previous owner told me he thought they had something to do with the previously installed nitrous system (from the previously installed motor) but i dont think he knew what he was talking about. Im getting a check engine light fwiw.... I would rather not rip apart the wire covers and tape to trace it through... anyone have a clue?

I looked on my car and those are the same color as my IAT (Intake Air Temp) sensor wires.
The easiest thing to do would be to buy an IAT sensor and grommet, not sure who would have the plug but I noticed a lot of the sensor plugs on various GM vehicles are pretty much universal. As a last resort I'd take the IAT to a pick your part junkyard and cut a plug off something that fits it, splice the wires, drill a hole in the air lid if theres not already one there (there should be one) hook it all up, and go have the code erased.

Well, I don't see an IAT on there anywhere, maybe whoever put the lid on there didn't know what they were doing and cut it off. Those wires sure look like they were there from the factory as opposed to something aftermarket. Go get the code scanned for free at a parts store just to make sure.

thanks for the help guys... that sounds a lot more logical than nitrous wiring lol. I am getting some body work done so as soon as i get that taken care of i'll get the code read and replace the iat if thats what it is.
Thanks again
Ben
Btw... 2001NBMZ28 its an 02 ws6 with a suncoast hood/airbox set up. The cars been sitting for a while because i havent had any free time to work on... as soon as i get it back from the shop i'll be working towards getting it on the street... need to tackle the iat and a tranny issue first though lol. Thanks for your help.

Ah, OK. The IAT and grommet aren't expensive even from a dealer. Don't have a PN for the connector but the IAT is 12160244, grommet is 24504388 if you need them.

Yes, it would definitely have an affect, air temperature is one of the things the PCM uses to come up with the correct air/fuel ratio. Maybe if there is no signal it uses some sort of default setting? Probably assumes it is getting hot air and runs accordingly to avoid detonation. That would be my guess anyway. Or it might just read an open circuit as the lowest temperature reading possible, that would be worse.

so is it safe to be driving this car or not? I was thinking about just throwing a dealer tag on the car to get it to the body shop.... would this be a bad idea? I've been starting and letting the car run for about 20 mins once every week or 2 for the last six months... is this bad too lol? The motor seems otherwise healthy and doesnt have a rough idle or anything even on startup.
