Air Bag/Steering Wheel Controls
 

My Air Bag light has been on since I've owned the car back in 04. I've just been lazy to try and address it, but want to soon.

My steering wheel controls go in and out when turning the wheel too, but for the most part are non-functional.

From what I've researched, it could be the clock spring? I have the Helms manual, so I guess I should start by tearing it all apart, but I figured someone who's worked inside of there knew if the two issues were related to a common problem or dealt with the problems already and has some insight.

replace the clockspring this will solve your problem.

I believe thats the problem, I have taken my steering wheel off numerous times for a different issue. It really isnt that hard. you will need a couple tools:

An allen wrench to take off the air bag (disconnect the battery, cause with me the horn went off because the contact touches)

Pull the wheel

there is the clock spring

I dont know the name of the tool but once you see the clip holding it on you will see

then take apart the two panels under the dash to get to the bottom side of the wires you will need to slide the wires up to create some slack so the clock spring will hang loose.

when putting in the new spring be careful because they are kind of fragile, look at the two arrows, make sure they are lined up

but then again I have a 94 so i dont know if the airbag is attached differentially.

You need a lockplate compressor, philips, torx, steering wheel puller or a harmonic balancer remover for the old SBC's. The bolts you will need for the puller to the left and right of the main steering wheel nut are 5/16 course thread.
