Question What idler pulley do I use?

I bought an idler pulley from the local auto parts store and noticed that it does not have any grooves on it because no belt is actually driven on it. I have done quite bit of research and found the tutorial on how to install one at installuniversity.com. This shows a different pulley and requires the change of the corresponding belt to go along with it. MY QUESTION IS, WHICH ONE DO I CHANGE AND DO I NEED TO TAKE BACK THE PULLEY FROM THE AUTO PARTS STORE? Thanks everyone.

The main idler is flat if i am remembering correctly. Its the belt tensioner that is grooved.

For the swap, where is this one located then? The tutorial also says that I should get a new bolt with the pulley and I did not.

I'm not sure why your replacing it but if it was because one of the pulleys, either idler or tensioner was squeaking, then there is a great thread on here that shows how to repack the pulleys with grease because by this point they are all dry. I did all four, including the ones for the a/c and it only cost 4 bones for a tub of grease.

repacking the grease on them works great! but if you want to replace that pulley it is right under the power steering pump between the center big pulley and the power steering pump pully

I bought a new pulley, does it need to be greased? Does the plastic cover need to be taken off and lubed up? Or can I just pop the new one on there.
