Default Installed a 160 thermo.. Temp didn't change

Hey guys, this may sound like a BS question, but I installed 160 thermostat and the operating temperture stayed about the same... Am I missing something?

You need to have the computer changed to turn the fans on at a lower temp, or the 160 T-stat will do nothing for you.

Fans need to be on for temp to change while the car isn't moving. If you are going down the road it shouldn't matter about the fans.

I had mine put in at ARD, they tuned the fans to come on sooner, but my temp. gauge doesn't change also. It stays about the same, I asked Owen at ARD why, he said the gauge is a dummy gauge it really doesn't show the real temp.

If you are relying on the factory temp gauge for your feedback . . . those darned things are useless . . . just fancy dummy lights.

This is the truth. I have a 160 and my fans are also reprogramed for like 180. My temp runs at about 187-190 but the guage still sit just barely under 210. I want to look into installing a autometer temp guage.

Apparantly people complained in 98 about the temp always moving around due to aluminum blocks cooling off fast. 99-02 it is a dummy gauge. My 99 Z will say like under 210 a little bit but my interceptor gauge says 177.

Same here with the exception that my fans are set for 190. On a cool day, it takes longer for the gauge to register 210 but eventually it will. I asked about this a while back and the people who replied stated that even with the lower temp thermo, as long as it is running at a tuned "normal operating temp", it will read 210. So I guess you just consider your LS1 running just fine as long as it's 210
My 94 LT1 gauge was super accurate and I sometimes feared getting on it because it was running so cool at 160.

The gague is not that accurate, but you still need the fans programmed to get the benifit from the t-stat.

The T-stat mod itself is full of controversy.

our fbodys have got some crazy electronics on them. but yea the thermostat will actual start messing your car up and confusing your computer unless you get it tuned.
