Default New 0xygen sensors

Its time to get new ones here pretty soon, mine are black as night and giving me problems I think adding to my mpg issue. If I get new oxygen sensors how long after I install the new ones before I can tell any difference?

Is your car throwing a code?

If so, get it checked out.

If not O2's are probably good.

As for how long, I know it's several crank cycles (starts of the car) Not sure how many. I would assume 1/2 tank of gas worth of driving.

It sounds like your problem is mileage and not necessarily your O2 sensors. Put anything in your exhaust stream and it will turn black! (Even new sensors.) Changing your sensors can hurt - in your wallet.

What's your mileage? You'll probably get better results by cleaning the carbon out of your engine.

For a barometer: I've kept detailed mileage records on my stock car and have scored as low as 12 mpg with a carbon-dirty engine in heavy downtown city driving and as high as 29.5 mpg on the highway going down a mountain range with a clean engine.

Doing a CarbonClean treatment got me an additional 2 mpg across the board.

I did the full seafoam treatment a few months ago (not much smoke) and im kinda going all over the car replacing things that need attention. Fluids, nuts bolts, etc.... and i just pulled my 02's the other day and they looked awful. I had the rears tuned out when i got my car tuned and I just thought as far as i know these are factory 02's they look like **** i might as well replace them. They may or may not need replacing but i was just wondering when i put new ones in how long will it take for the car to adjust to the new sensors?

If they are carboned up, the car is running very rich. Could be in your tune. I would code scan it. maybe your light for the check engine is out.

Shouldnt be the tune, the light did come on about a month ago i got it scanned it was a 02 code. So i reused one the sensors i had left over from my LT install and the light went off. MPG really isnt much of an issue as much as just going over the car and replacing normal wear an tear items.
