Metallic grinding/hissing noise from rear end
Hey guys,
I've had this intermittent problem with a strange metallic hissing/grinding noise coming from the rear end. I can't hear it inside the car, but I can hear it faintly when I'm outside and next to the car. Is this a problem, and if it is, what can I do to fix it? I'm not so much concerned about the noise itself, but rather, the potential underlying cause.
My differential cover is covered in oil and I have the factory LSD if that helps.... thanks.

You didnt mention the last time, if ever, your rear end had its oil/fluid changed.
If the answer is never and its leaking, that is a disaster just waiting to happen.
In any case, by what little information we have here, start by changing the oil, using GM's additive, use a new gasket & clean everything up back there.
