Default Stock 99 SS pings at WOT

My pretty much stock 99 SS with 67K on the clock pings at WOT with 93 premium fuel. It has a dynomouth catback, pro 5.0, skip shift delete, lid and filter, LS7 clutch and thats it. This car has very rarely been run hard. Its never been down a track. Its still got the factory plugs and wires. I just changed the factory fuel filter out (it was very clean and not obstructed at all).

The engine runs great and gets about 300 to 330 miles to a tank of fuel (only on longgggggggggg drives). But it pings at WOT no matter what grade or brand fuel I run.

Anybody have any ideas? Its never thrown a code and never miss fired.

Try running some seafoam through it. Carbon deposits in the combusion chamber can cause pinging.

I did that about 10,000 miles ago. I ran it through the brake booster line. Funny thing was i did half the bottle then dumped it real fast to stall the engine. Let it sit 20 minutes and fired it back up. It was hard to start but finally got it running. But there was virtually no smoke like I see out of everybody elses car.

I also run a can in a full tank of gas about once a year.

do you have a fuel pressure gauge? the fuel pump may not be keeping up in the higher rpm`s, causing it to go a little lean.

Is it just pinging? Is it hesitating at all? You may need new plugs and wires.

Get some MSDs and TR-55s.

For the most part it just pings at WOT. I do every once in a while feel a little hesitation. I have some msd wires and TR55's on the way so i can change the plugs and wires next weekend.
