Default 11 Mpg?!?!

My last fill up was done at half a tank on the fuel guage, but the car took 9 gallons. If I fill it when the guage reads empty it will take around 13.5 gallons, but the tank holds 17 gallons doesnt it? Maybe a bad sending unit?... Anyways on that last fill I got 98 miles out of it when it was halfway, burning 8.9 gallons. The car is stock except for a lid, catback, and fra. Im going crazy, whats going on here? Any ideas?

"New for 1999, an increased fuel tank capacity of 16.8 gallons"...

I thought 98s had the 15.5 and 99+ the 16.8? Either way doesnt really answer the question.

something isn't right, how does the car drive? how many miles? Is it due for a tune up? I spent the whole summer doing a complete run through on my car (brakes, plugs, wires, all filters, all fluids, lube suspension, some performance mods, etc) and went from 16-17MPG to 18-19MPG and that is mainly expressway/city driving (45MPH speed limit with the morning stop and go traffic). I would start with things like fuel filter, air filter, plugs, wires first and move from there.

That's worse than my last tank by far and see mods in sig. 10.2 gals. at 174 miles. I would start with a good MAF cleaning and go from there????

Yeah its been this way since ive had the car. Ive replaced the fuel filter, air filter looks good... plugs/wires are next and if doesnt some new o2s, and if that doesnt do it time for a tune. Im almost starting to think that the car was modded before and put back to stock, due to a few weird things I found on the car and if it had a tune on it it could be running rich... we shall see. Car drives pretty well but up top it doesnt pull like it should.

Are you within the actual city limits of Los Angeles? If so, 11 mpg in real city driving with a "dirty" engine is about normal. Within the city limits of Chicago, I was getting 12 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway. (Stop and go driving with stop lights every block makes a huge difference with regards to mileage!)

After cleaning my MAF and doing a CarbonClean treatment on the engine, (I did a MotorVac CarbonClean treatment but many others here like a do-it-yourself Seafoam treatment.) I moved up to 15 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

A dirty MAF may be causing your PCM to think you have low air flow, causing it to cut fuel to the engine - which may be why you aren't pulling well.

yeah I live in west la, Venice. I do a mix of city and highway and it doesn't really fluctuate. I did a seafoam cleaning and cleaned the mac, nothing really changed... Somethings wrong here but I can't quite figure out what.

Thats 19.2 in the city? Thats seems pretty darn good. I got less with my '95 3.4 V6.I can also get that with my T/A if I drive with ............how do I phrase it.............."no joy"?I have the most enjoyment when shes at WOT with the exhaust screaming and...........well you must know this is not so good for gas mileage.
So how do you drive in the city--a mix of "joy" and "no joy"? I can get 27-30 on a road trip which tells me if there are any problems cropping up.Also the tank size is irrelevent if you fill up,drive and fill up then do the math.Simple.
