FWIW I had a similar issue and bought a filter wrench from mejier that was like a pair of angled channellocks with teeth that chewed into the filter. That is a mean ******* tool and hasn't let me down yet even with really messed up filters.

That happened to me a long time ago as I was changing the oil & filter on a Friday night right before a 4hr trip. I started with the channel locks and screwdriver pierce, but since I was in a hurry I went through them pretty quickly.
I wound up ripping off the can with some vise grips and tapping the base plate with a screwdriver in the six holes until it came off.
To add insult, the last tap sent it spinning real fast and it came off and konked me in the forehead.
But I got out of town in only an hour or so.

I've had my share of mangled filters in the past.... oh, the memories.
My problem is the opposite, I put them on so loose, they almost fall off.
What did the rubber seal look like. It wasn't in the picture. I hope it wasn't still stuck up there,

Vise Grips makes a pair of ViseGrips that have vaws big enough to grab around an oil filter (but the handles are standard length...for tight placed that the big Channel Locs cant get into.) They are outstanding for getting a filter like this off...you can actually get a bit at the very end of the filter (next to the block) if you need to. They are actually pretty hard to find but worth buying a pair if you do.

You definitely showed that filter who's daddy. You lucked out though..in my experience. I changed the oil for the first time in...at least 2 years in my DD Blazer..and now I've essentially totalled it as I ripped the entire mounting where the oil filter goes, off. Stupid corrossion. Stupid me for having it as a DD and a mud vehicle

The one down the street. The guy never changed the oil himself, and refused to pay a shop. He went so often they gave him good deals on oil changes. But obviously I can't say for a fact whether or not it is 100 percent true. Guys honest, retired Master Chief and a neighbor so I can't help but take his word.

put it on hand tight, snug. Not as hard as you can
That's what I posted that dealers need to read... Look at my post one more time but this time pay attention.
