Exclamation Need some Input 01 SS

Alright my problem started about a week ago, crusing out to the track, cleaned the car out up to about 135mph, car started smoking very badly, pulled off the side of the road and dipstick was out about an inch, Cleaned it up and went on and just thought i didn't get it back on all the way.

Next thing that happens, when i take the lid off, is i see oil laying in front of the throttle body and in my smooth bellow, oil kind of smells gas-ey. Made me kind of leary, so i did a compression test, all cylinders were between 145-155psi except #7 which was 60psi....thinking maybe a valve wasn't seating...a couple days later the dipstick had popped out and the car started smoking again, so i pulled plugs out and #7 was pure black and smelled gas-ey. This is where i left off this past weekend, put a new set of plugs in, i do have a catch can, drove about 2 miles to get some gas, service engine soon light started blinking, which means a misfire, came back took plug out, plug was fouled out in about 4 miles. Switched a wire because it was not getting spark, fouled out another plug in 2 miles and car smoked the whole time, put new plug in, switched coil packs, plug didn't even last 2 miles and plug is fouled out again...what do you think the problem may be??

I'm thinking rings, any input would be greatly appreciated!

With all the smoke and the dip stick poped out. I'm going with rings. Your dip stick poped out because of excess crank case pressure due to blow by. 60psi is bad. Time to rebuild.

Blowby. #7 is notoriuos for going lean and breaking ringlands Mainly see it boosted motors though. Good luck

Thanks for the input guys.......i have heard of #7 cylinder causing problems for the f-body guys. The car has never had spray on it. What kind average price tag have some of you spent on your rebuild?

So my next question is, why are the cars notorious for doing it in general and esp. on #7?

Pull out the dipstick and put your hand over it. If it pushes against your hand you are prolly getting blowby. Also smoke comming out DS tube is not good. Also when warmed up smoke coming out your oil fill tube is a bad sign.

Thanks for all the input guys, and yes there is light smoke swirls coming out of oil fill tube when pulled off after car is shut off.

What cause the ring(S) to go bad on these cars?

Have you considered forging your moter? What kind of budget do you have? The design of the intake can cause the # 7 hole to go lean. Your rings are either gulded in to the pistion or the lands broke and there's nothing keeping the compressed air from blowing buy.

I haven't thought about going forged, budget is around $3000-$4000...what can that do for me?

With this being said about the intake, what can i do about that before i put it back together, Port it, upgrade?

Thanks again!

Got my forged SB from texas speed... around 3K. The fast intake's are nice but $$$. If your going to run a power adder in the future I would forge it. If a full bolton head/cam car is your final goal... assumeing your cylinder wall isn't too F ed up, I would replace the #7 piston all new rings for the rest of the pistons, hone the cylinders, New main, rod, and cam bearings with a line hone... you got your self a new SB for probly 1,500 and use the rest of the $$$ for a nice head and cam package, hardened push rods, ported oil pump, new timing chain, and lifters. This would put you around 450hp at the tire's

Thanks, so what are some good heads out there? Need bigger injectors also correct? Want to shoot me a pm with some details and maybe some prices where i would be looking at minus the $1500 for the short block.

You stile have the ls6 intake right, thats a good intake for a budget, 42# will be all that you need, and a racetronix fuel system, if your going to spray the car. IMO if you forged the motor just get the pistons and rods and your be fine. But you need to figue out if your going to spray the car or not so that you can buy the right parts for the motor (ex. piston, rings)

If I did a h/c/i car again I would do trick flows 215's, Vindicator cam, head studs, fast 90 or 92, and this will put you in the 470+. IMO
