Default '01 and '02 exhaust manifolds better than the 99-99?

I heard this a few weeks ago and kind of blew it off. But now I have decided I want to go as fast as I possibly can with exhaust manifolds. But if its true I was told that it could be worth an extra 5-7rwhp. It's not much but it would help in my quest to break into the 10's without headers in a bolt on car(on nitrous of coarse).

Anyone got some they would be willing to give away to see if it works?

Yah, the manifolds on the newer cars are supposed to have slightly more flow.

They're supposed to be better, and can be made
better yet with some porting (the manifold sticks
into the exhaust port by as much as 1/4").

I wonder if anyone has any dyno numbers?

The stock '01-02' manafolds are suppose to be good for 5-7 hp. The reasoning is due to the fact that shorty headers have given ~10hp gains on earlier cars but offer almost no gains on 01-02 cars.

The 2000 cars also have the same manifold design as the 01-02. The only difference is that the 01-02 cars have no provision for EGR on the passenger side manifold.

i would take some 01-02 manifolds to a local speed shop and have them extrude honed & port matched. this will cost a pretty penny, but they will be flowing decent.

Port matching a pair took me a half an hour with
a die grinder. The soot rings make it easy to see
where the port was An Ace Hdwr carbide
burr chowed the iron out real easily. There's an
area at the bend where it would be easy to go too
far and see daylight, but other than that, it's
a simple job.

Now they sit on the shelf with everything else....

Aside from the port incursion they don't look
that bad. The casting is not very thick walled,
I think extrude-honing might be overkill (and
from what I've seen of rates, you might be up to
the $$$ of a pair of used shorties by the time
you're done). Which defeats the whole point of
being a cheap bastard who goes a little faster.
