i know its a stupid question but

can any one tell me the diffrence in a ls1 stock intake manifold, and ls6 intake manifold so i can tell if i have one or not i am not sure because my car came with a few mods i know of when my parents bought it from the dealership my parents bought it for me for christmas last year(i am 15)so i have some knowledge about the manifold but not much. Thanks in advance

If it is a ls1 intake, you will have the EGR tube going in the front of the intake. If not then It's a ls6. BTW 98-00 ls1 intake 01-02 LS6 intake.

Some people try to pass Vette (non EGR) LS1 manifolds as LS6 manifolds, so you can't only go off of that. The best way to tell is by looking at the bottom of the manifold.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/attachmen...1&d=1246468378

If it is flat, it is an LS6, if it curves, it is an LS1. If you can't take it off (or dont have it off) another way to tell is by the GM part number molded into the intake manifold.

98-00 F body LS1 intake with the EGR setup is 12560688.

97-00 vette LS1 part # is 12556333 (No EGR)
I believe these are all vette non EGR LS1 intakes as well:
12557846
88894095
88890523
88890524
88894339

The Stock 2001-2002 F-body LS6 is 12561184.

The Z06 LS6 is 12573572 (But these were put on Fbodies too).

rocndav-thanks a lot i will go check that out now.

You may also have an EGR tube on an ls6 intake if someone put on a conversion intake, it is an LS6 intake with an adapter for the EGR, but the adapter is a large compression fitting and is easy to spot. I know SLP sells them.

happens to be an ls1 manifold :( looked at the part number

What PN is your intake?

what about your heads?

1998_trans_am_ls1 11-18-2008 02:00 PM

rocndav- the part number for the intake was 12560688.
Heads i believe they are stock no one mentioned any thing when purchased but they could be aftermarket and just not mentioned.

im getting a second dyno pull next week, my first one was without my lid, a crappy fuel filter, old plugs, old wires, and no other mods than the exhaust and it made 330 to the rear wheels. i have the mods in my sig and i also am going to be ordering a MS3 cam from texas speed, my predictions are right at 400 RWHP with a dyno tune. but good luck saving up enough money to push 360+. unless your parents bought your car and you have money to spend on mods... i bought my car and still owe another $500 on it, however i chose to mod it before paying it off but i bought it when i was 17 (18 now) and it took alot of $$$ and time to get were i am at now.

1998_trans_am_ls1 11-18-2008 04:31 PM

i like hearing that 330 with pretty much stock, everyone is telling me i will get around 315 i was sordof disapointed cuz a friend of mine hit around 310 stock. but yeah my parents bought the car for me.

NeedaV8foundation 11-18-2008 05:49 PM

330 was with headers, ORY, and magnaflow... not stock. your lucky your parents paid for it, take care of it and dont total it.

1998_trans_am_ls1 11-18-2008 06:09 PM

o crap haha i prob am only at 315 if that then. and yeah i will definately take care of it almost every dollar i have got since i bought it has went to the car and a trans am or camaro has been my dream car since i started getting into cars.

NeedaV8foundation 11-18-2008 07:16 PM

how many miles on the car?

1998_trans_am_ls1 11-18-2008 07:24 PM

around 98,000 i know thats a lot but they run good up to 200,000+and worst comes to worst if i need a new engine in a couple years i will get a new one.

NeedaV8foundation 11-18-2008 08:45 PM

thats not bad but i wouldnt start modding the crap out of it with 100K+ miles. my 98 had 62 when i bought it and now has 70 and im replacing all the top end gaskets, oil pump, timing chain, intake manifold (swapping for an LS6) and doing new injectors as well as all the stuff (push rods, springs and cam) that goes with a cam kit. If you do headers you will need a tune as well. i know some people are going to say you dont need to replace anything but i think different just because of adding HP to a high milage car.

1998_trans_am_ls1 11-18-2008 08:52 PM

yeah but i know i am gonna be modding so its all good if i need a tune or replace a few parts.
