how hard are motor mounts to put in on an F-body?

I think mine are done and need to start looking at replacing them. I wondering how big a job this is to do.

Now too bad, just have to support one side of the Engine at a time to get to them.

Doing it "Now" or later, its usually a PITA and can be a bitch.

The best time for changing out the motor mounts is during a header o rk-member install or swap, the extra space with the manifold or headers out of the way helps a lot.

I did mine when I dropped the K to change to motor and it was pretty easy.

MeentSS02 11-23-2008 08:47 AM

I did mine with the engine still in, and it was by far the hardest install I've ever done, and I was even working on a lift with a buddy. If you decide to do this, you need to take the headers out...it'll save you a lot of time and aggravation.

It is a royal pain in the ass if you leave everything installed. Would be much easier with headers removed and simple with heads removed.

fortmyerspolice 11-23-2008 09:20 AM

Take the headers, coil packs, ypipe, starter, and alternator out. Use air tools.

adam02gt 11-23-2008 09:32 AM

Holy shit are they really that bad to do?

the_merv 11-23-2008 09:44 AM

^^How much other work have you done on your car before?

99blancoSS 11-23-2008 11:00 AM

Drivers side isnt bad but the passenger side if you have a/c is more work.

Zero4488 11-23-2008 11:08 AM

Well now I'm waiting till I do my k-member....I thought it would be hard....didn't think it would be that hard.....

firehawk#682 11-23-2008 12:06 PM

ya i would remove the manifold if you do it. Doing one side at a time i think is easier.

Martin HD-28 11-23-2008 12:20 PM

Never done it but I have a buddy that did it and he swears he'll never do it again.

Took me about 8-9 hours per side due to complications. So yes...they really are that bad.

jrpimp00 11-23-2008 01:36 PM

Just do it, good experience and use a big pry bar. Did mine in about 10 hours total. Oh and thats with cracking the a/c housing, :)

not much seeing as this is my first f-body and I haven't had it that long....:gtfo:

noriceinside 11-23-2008 03:29 PM

unless of course the passenger side is completely destroyed, which is very unlikely, just do the drivers side. its the only one that will really make a difference. i waited til after i did my headers and it took me about 2 hours on my garage floor. remove the steering rack/linkage and alternator and there ya go.

_JB_ 11-23-2008 04:02 PM

They are a pain in the ass, I installed mine when I changed my exhaust.

In all honesty, the actual job isn't that bad. You just have to understand where you are working. It isn't the easiest place to get to. I did mine w/ headers off the car, a/c out of the way, alternator off, coil packs off, etc. Took about 6 hours for both sides (including drilling out rivets). The hardest part for me was getting everything lined back up so all the bolts would go in straight. Ended up using a scissor jack to move the motor over towards the driver's side. The responses you get about "big pry bar" etc all have to do with the fact that with new poly mounts, the motor will not want to move side to side and will instead just pivot on the mount, can be a real pita when it won't go where you want it.
