Stud's on headers?

I've never put studs on with headers, but I was looking at the ARP stud kit...anyone use them? Are they pron to losings like standard bolt's?

Actually I think it would be nice. No worries about breaking off a bolt in the head (which I have on my driver's side head) and also it would make it much easier to get the MLS gasket on and set up.

Yeah but it would still be a MFer to re tighten the nuts on the studs.

ive got a set going in with my new motor.
bought a set of tfs heads and got them for insurance for myself, and so the threads wont get damaged for a future sell.
ease of installing header/gasket alone is worth having them.

Wouldn't know anything about that myself. My engine bay is big enough for me to get inside of it myself (or so it seems haha).

Bump....

As long as you have room to get the headers over the studs they work great. I tried them on My small block S-10 but didn't have room to get the header on the studs without jacking the motor up.

I think studs are a great idea. The only thing that turned me back when I did my headers was the price of the kit. I re-used my OE bolts, and they worked great. An inexpensive alternative to the ARP studs are factory Honda studs. They are typically 8mm, like the LS1. Lengths vary slightly, so you may have to go through some to find one that works for you.

if your intention is to get it right the first time and not do it again go with Stage 8 locking header bolts, pretty easy to install

SS1875 Dec 29, 2008 01:54 PM

I have them on mine.....been running them for 2 years, no loosening at all and man is it easy to change gaskets if need be. Stage 8 are okay but I like the studs better.

DONAIMIAN Dec 29, 2008 07:22 PM

They're available in 2 versions. The stainless version normally goes for ~95 and the black oxide finish goes for under 20.

i contacted arp before purchasing the SS set. they do not offer a black oxide for the lsx motors.... according to them about 2 weeks ago. things change daily.
