Default how much rpm can my motor take?

i have a 01 sl1 out of a trans am. i was wondering if anyone knew wht rpm the bottom end is good for? im not rbuilding this thing anytime soon, i just want to know how hi i can safely spin it.

i made some informal passes the other night and was very unipressed with the et , but i left it in overdrive so it shifted on its own and it shifted to second and third at about 6,000 and into overdrive at about 5,000.

i figure if the motor is still pulling (my buddies lt1 pulls hard all the way to seven grand but his aint stock) hard past 6 grand then there is still some more poer to be had?

any ideas?

If it's completely stock I'd leave the limiter at 6200 like stock is set. With ARP connecting rod bolts, chromoly pushrods, and dual spring valve springs, you should be able to spin around 7200 or so. I have all these and i had mine set at 6750 just to be safe.

Definitely hardened pushrods, and rod bolts.. I'd watch the timing chain, too.

I have a cam and supporting mods w/ rev limiter set to 6800. When I tune a bolt on car, I set the rev limiter to at least 6400. Stock bottom end will easily handle 6800. As for the timing chain, mine had little slack when I did the cam swap (120k miles) so I left it. It now has 130k miles and still runs it's *** off.

it has a cam and ported heads, but i dont know if it has stock springs. if i can get ahold of the guy maybe i can find out. but cuz of the cam thats why i figured it would pull a little higher.

I have my LS6 set to 6,600. I want to go higher than that when I get my heads and cam. Maybe 6,800 or 7,000.

Stock 04 Z06 is set to 6,600. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to hit that or maybe even surpass it.
