Not sure what this is, or if it's normal

I cleaned up my 5.3 a few days ago. I'm not a competent engine builder, I'm learning and this is my first one... so I don't really know what everything is.

I noticed this thing that kind of resembles a piston, and noticed it wasn't really complete... are they suppose to be like this?

Looks like it may be a real "learning" experience for you!
Good luck with the project and have fun!

You're sure it's not 147,000 miles?

Arc00TA Jan 20, 2009 03:00 AM

I think 147 miles + a brush fire or tactical nuclear explosion is what he means. That thing looks awful.

The flash makes it look worse than what it actually is. I live in East coast Canada, that is normal and expected for a motor that age and that many kilometers from a truck.
