Default Longtubes emissions vs non emissions

Please help me. I ordered longtubes and the emission style headers from pacesetter came in. Is there a major difference between the non-emission headers? My mechanic said he can block off the EGR plate. Should I send these headers back or just block off the EGR plate?

You can block off the egr and air. Thats the only difference. Like I'm going to be getting Hooker headers and they don't make a race version so I have to do that. Its not a big deal, just easier and better to have the race ones.

You could block it off. I used my AIR/EGR stuff though.

race headers still have the 02 sensor hole correct? It just gets rid of the air/egr

I bought mine w/ emissions and just blocked them off. I figure if I ever want to sell the car it would be better if the car could still retain AIR and EGR.

I ordered my QTP's with Air fittings and decided that Im deleting the AIR in my car so before I put them on I called Andy @ QTP and he said it would be no problem to swap them out. Should be recieving the race style soon. I know alot of people on here block there's off with no problems but I did that with my current Pacesetters and it blew a quarter size hole where the air fitting is welded to the header. I have heard about this happening to other people who use block off plates and thats why I went with the Race style. Plus It will look a little cleaner in the engine bay.

I would keep the EGR personally and block off AIR. EGR is not restrictive (once you do the mod) and it helps with a little mpg on the highway. If you want you can block it off and remove the trouble codes from the PCM.

Anybody know for sure if you can pass inspection in NC without the AIR and race style headers? I want to get race style pacesetters but I want to make sure I can still pass inspection with them before I buy them

As long as there are no check engine lights and they don't have an under hood visual inspection you should be ok. I would check the state emissions laws. Here in IL you can pass with LTs and no cats as long as you have the right tune.

I sure hope so, I've gotta get mine tuned before they send me my notice lol. I'm curious tho, if a car comes in that's had the SES light tuned out, but the exhaust still smells raw, will they do more thourough inspections?

I would guess it depends on who is inspecting the car. Thankfully we don't have emissions stuff or inspections in Indiana.

If you are only going to block off the emissions fittings, I personally think you are better off with getting the race style headers right from the get go. There are lots of people that post on here with pictures of holes in their headers from where the emissions fittings used to be and fell off, leaving them with a nice sized hole right after the head. Seems like most people have had it happen with the cheaper headers...my Kooks have AIR fittings on them, and they've been blocked off from the beginning and have been fine, but I still don't like the idea of them being welded on where they are. Lots of heat and lots of vibration.
