Default Port my stock heads or buy new?

I have about 1500 dollars to play with this tax return. I already have a lid, long tubes, ported TB, msd wires and will be getting a good tune this spring. I am also going to install an ls6 intake. Should I have my heads ported and polished, or just buy new heads? If so, which heads do you recommend? I am looking for 400+ hp at the rear wheels.

If im not mistaken.....youll probably need a tune if you mess with the heads. IM sure someone will be in hear to chime in on that.

I would definetly like to see what a set of ported 241's with bigger valves could do. Im contemplating doing the same thing with my stockers so that I can fit a bigger cam. I have seen a few guys with good results....

Thread I started basically asking the same thing.

If you do get your heads done I would recommend talking to serious drag racers in your area and who you think you should send your heads to, id be surprised if there wasnt someone local to you that could do an excellent job for cheaper than shipping them elswhere.

There not many machine shops in my area that could rework these heads. Anyone know who I could ship them to on the east coast? I am located in upstate new york. I am already running an aftermarket comp cam, I'll get the specs on here later. What could I expect for a gain at the rear wheels with the ported heads, ls6 intake and a good tune? Ontop of my lid, long tubes, msd ignition, ls6 oil pump on 93 octane?

Never seen anything close to 339 in a OEM cathedral port head

Most start backing up much over .600.

Don't believe everything you read.......

I would consider mailing them just about anywhere. Anyone know what valves I should go with? Any one valve combination better than the other?

I don't know who nate is. But I found a speed shop a few hours away that will port and polish my stock ls1 heads with a valve job for 1005 plus tax. Is this a good price? What can I expect for hp gains?
