So I'm running open headers and I have a question

Well I've been running open headers for the past 4 days and I do notice a drop off in low end TQ

But shouldn't I gain a little HP up top?

Just thought I would ask, I'm taking it to the track Saturday (if it doesn't rain) to see what it will do

Yeah open headers is nice, I did that two weekends ago and it was LOUD. I am sure it is crazy with your cam though! I def noticed a drop off in low end tq and and increase in top end. post a sound clip man

i'm suprised your O2's aren't shit yet. your gas mileage must be horrible.

Punisher GTO Mar 4, 2009 10:53 AM

gas mileage is about the same 12.7MPG
So far no issues with the O2s :) (knock on wood)

From what I read you will kill your O2's in no time running open headers.

Punisher GTO Mar 4, 2009 11:06 AM

what would cause the O2's to go out? It's not like the exhaust is coming from a different engine...

the O2 sensors are so close to the opening of the headers, messing with them, and causing them to run rich

simple answer to that... dont use O2 sensors...

Either way, if you are going to run w/o an exhaust, I would re-tune the car for it. Otherwise, you're just making your car louder for no good reason.

ONLY taking the exhaust off will not do much. If you make a change that drastic to the car, you should tune for it.
