Default Trivial but Im at a loss! Please help!!

So I have installed a ls1/t56 combo into a 1995 240sx and when I was reading the installation manual they mentioned to install the motor without the starter in. Well now that the motor is in the I cant seem to get the starter in and its not because I cant get the starter to the opening! Its because the top edge of the starter is hits the block. The only thing I can think of is that when I bought the engine combo one of the bellhousing bolt holes was cracked and I had the guy swap it out with a different one. When we made the swap I held the two next to each other and they seemed identical and everything bolted up fine without the starter.

-Now am I doing something wrong when installing this, do I need to know a trick, or is there different versions of bell housing where the starter housing is bigger?
