need intake help ASAP
 

I`m in the middle of an intake swap on an 01 Pontiac TA and it looks like I broke the oil pressure sending unit! I don`t have time to replace it. So how will the car run without it? Will it now throw a code? It doesnt look like it will leak oil or anything. Thanks!

No idea. I broke mine too but I went to Chevy and got a new one. I could'nt imagine trying to change it with the intake on the car though, better to make time and do it now.

if you had time to break it you should have time to fix it. i broke mine on a sunday install and searched like a mad man to find one. i don't know if it will hurt anything to run it but i bet the car will flip out not seeing any OP. my advice is to go to the local auto store and get a new one and a socket to use. it may take 30min to get the part and install it.

if its a 98 the car will probably die its a two wire sensor that shuts off the fuel ump relay if the pressure falls(insures motor wont get damaged) but 99+ i think its just for oil pressure, most autoparts stock the 99+ its the 98 thats hard to find its like 30 dollars and the socket needed is special so i think youll have a hard time finding that not the sensor, good luck

Well mine is a 01 single wire unit. So can I run without it not throw a code?

the sensor itself is not that expensive, I will tell you this, you dont want any part of trying to change that sucker with the intake back on the car, I dont know if it can even be done. I know the sensor is like 30 bucks, I bought mine at autozone, and if you run the car without it (not sure what will happen) later on when you go to replace it, the intake gaskets will be another 20 bucks, might as well bite the bullet and get the sensor now.

you might be able to run it but youll set a code and the gauge wont read, if you broke it low youll have a nasty oil leak coming from it

Well I broke it high so Im not worried about an oil leak. Is anyone out there running without a oil pressure sending unit???

You have 8 hours between your 1st and last post, that was definitely enough time to go find the sensor and socket.

My problem was finding the right socket, the auto zone "gm oil pressure sending socket" was too short, same with anything advanced auto had. I finally found the right one at Murray's. Cost right around 8 bucks.

Well no one has the sensor and socket in stock and I really need my whip back so I`m going to put the intake back on and hope she runs.

Well I got my car back together with no issues and she runs great. I found out that you can run a 99 and newer LS1 without an oil pressure sending unit. No leaks and no codes! Also about 5 years ago I pulled the oil catch can and installed a metco valve cover breather and the intake was very clean with not a drop of oil. Time to hit the track!!!

I broke mine and i have a 98..Im still running it..All it is is just for the gauge..You will have oil pressure, you just dont know what its reading thats all..

Car will run fine but your oil pressure gauge will be dead. As long as you dont spin a bearing while its busted, you should have no problems. Just replace it when you can. There is a special tool you can pick up that is designed just for the removal and replacement of these sensors. Not needed, but handy.

Lucky punk :D. I broke mine without knowing it and it wouldnt even turn over. . . I had to unbolt the damn intake to troubleshoot, and by the time I realized i had broken it, it was 5pm on a sunday. I had to borrow a car for work the next morning!!

For my next car, I'm gonna buy the opsu BEFORE the install, and if i dont need it, i'll return it!

I broke mine as well. Someone on here gave me a real helpful hint for the next time. If you put that socket over the sensor before you remove the intake it will be really hard to brake it. I had to remove mine because like a idiot I forgot to put the back bolts in first and the socket trick worked great.

OK thanks for the tip. I hate that opsu! I that everybody breaks that damn thing the first time they pull their intake.
